Aphasia:
Loss of speech ability due to dysfunction in the language areas of the cerebral cortex.
Aphasia is a collection of works that deal with language, speech, verbal violence and loss of meaning as main themes. The audiovisual installation “Aphasia 1” transports the viewer into an immersive and overflowing environment, in which a broken dialogue is fragmented into strips and begins to take over the space.
The spectator observes how the exhibition space is filled with fragments of a close-up video of the mouth of a speaker. As the video progresses, it becomes more difficult to understand the words spoken. At the climax of the cacophony, the video ends and there is silence in the room, before it begins again.
